ATLASES MOVE TO ECIP

Effective October 1, 2007, the conventional (paper) program will cease to function as a standard mode for obtaining Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication (CIP) data for publishers of atlases. The Electronic Cataloging in Publication Program (ECIP) will become the standard. Paper applications will be restricted to the following:

  • Atlases in non-English languages(other than modern Western European languages)

  • Atlases with diacritics (other than those occurring in modern Western European languages) appearing anywhere on the title page

  • Atlases whose content does not consist of sufficient information in text to meet the minimum requirements of: title page, copyright page, and - if applicable - series page, table of contents, and any introductory text (preface, forward, introduction, etc.).

Paper applications that do not meet these criteria will be returned to the publisher. Your CIP publisher liaison will assist you in making the transition to the electronic mode.

Publishers unable to participate in the ECIP program should consider the Electronic Preassigned Control Number (EPCN) program as an alternative.
